All the animals – foxes, hedgehogs and vipers – have a partner. But the Bear has only himself. Moreover, he’s a bit of an oddball. He’s always wandering through the forest collecting rubbish – he’s got loads of it and makes unusual things out of it. At least as unusual as he is himself. For example, he uses a pine cone as a musical instrument. Or he rescues butterflies using… a butterfly net. Eventually, in rather surprising circumstances, he meets someone just as special as himself.
In the play Bear, the Butterfly Hunter, we explore how the unobvious and ‘abnormal’ elements of our everyday lives can turn out to be beautiful. And how, in our uniqueness, we can find fulfillment, discover happiness and remain true to ourselves. This story also shows that good deeds come back to us and that sensitivity to the needs of others is very important. It is also a tale full of contrasts – in its literary layer, visuals and music. For the bear has the soul of a musician, which means we get to know him best by listening to him play. Only then do we have a chance to get closer to his feelings and thoughts, which – usually a secretive and silent bear – he reveals, showing the full extent of his sensitivity.
Bear, the Butterfly Hunter is a fairy tale for everyone who wants to feel good about their uniqueness
